Anon race fail

I think this speaks for itself. But I will also link to the context:

OP with links to original fail.

I had decided not to fuel the flames on this with posting about the kink meme bullshit because the less traffic the fools get, the better, but OKAY I guess I will.

Aside from thread after thread of extreme idiocy, flagrant racism, and baiting, I feel the saddest part of the original fail (on the kink meme itself) is the mods freezing the threads and saying "stop being serious, this is for lulz." Look, I get wanting to have fun and blockading your sandbox-of-fun against srs bznz. However, perhaps you should have a policy, such as "if racism or some other ism goes down, we step back and allow others to administer a beatown" rather than freezing threads. Freezing threads is basically approval of racist remarks. You are assholes, kink meme mods. I hope you're not on my fl. I feel like you probably are, though. I think you're dicks. It's a pain in the ass to do fandom husbandry and to host something like that meme, but you have a position of authority and using it to prop up the status quo of blatant racism and the disenfranchisement of minorities is the worst sort of cowardly behavior.

I would further say that in the above spnanonymeme and on the kink meme, it seems to me the logical response is to deny the herd mentality of blind anon posting by posting in response with your lj name attached. THIS shit is why I hate anonymemes. Wanking about how lame people's fic is is one thing, devaluing fellow human beings by being an ignorant ass fuckhead is something else entirely.

Read the threads yourself and make up your own minds. I won't tell you what to think, but I know what I think myself.

Between these fools and the ones on the kink meme I am flabbergasted that SO MUCH of what has gone down in fandom in the last couple years seems to have missed at least two or three concerted morons. They have never heard the definition of racism wrt prejudice? EVER? Not once? Seriously?

They just got the internet down in Fraggle Rock.

I other news, it's always awesome to see white people being "edgy" by being invested in shoring up racism and white supremacy culture. Spoiler alert anonymous fans, when you denigrate and minimize anti-racist efforts, you are being INCREDIBLY MAINSTREAM AND BORING. In fact, you are the definition of status quo.

It's even classier and awesome if you do it anonymously where you're COOL and LOLZY.

Seriously fuck off.

"What is she talking about, there's not reverse racism? COW! lulz!"

I'm going to make myself a drink.

It's ignorance, but people who believe in reverse racism just cannot see how impossible that is in a society like ours. For white people, it takes a very in-depth self-awareness of privilege and power dynamics to get that. And there are just so many fucked up things wrong with the terminology, like the way whites use it to co-opt, undermine and make superficial centuries of systematic abuse, prejudice and ignorance. And the addition of 'reverse' to the term itself somehow insinuates that this is racism that's not the norm, not like REAL, NORMAL racism, which is against the Other (minorities). REVERSE racism is the WEIRD, EXTRAORDINARY experience of WHITE PEOPLE being treated poorly! Who would want to dislike white people, absurd!..Anyway, if it was really RACISM, to dislike someone because they're white, wouldn't you just call it racism, without the 'reverse'? How fucked up is that?

ANYWAY, IT'S INFURIATING AND I HAVE NOTHING I CAN SAY BUT AUGH! I wish people would stop being so knee-jerkingly reactive about being told "That's a racist statement" and would instead realize that racism isn't all Jim Crow laws and cross burning, racism is the everyday, basic ignorances and stereotypes, right below the surface, that impact and guide the way we talk, think, what we listen to, watch, read, believe.

Whatever, everyone knows that anything YOU say is tainted by your...crazypants. Clearly you are confirming that these people are totally sound and correct in their belief in reverse racism, the scourge of Obama America!

Next you'll be saying that most people who get raped are women.

I really fucking hate people. I wish all those gutless fucks would admit who they are so I know who to avoid from now on.

They can't say that shit with their names attached. They know it's wrong, that's why they do it anonymously. The internet really is the fulfillment of the "Scruples" question "if you could get away with a crime and never be caught or punished, would you?" Fuck yeah, most people would.

This argument always reminds me of The Real World because there was a huge fight that Kevin (a black man) and Julie (a white woman) had the first season where he was saying black people can't be racist against white people, and Julie was like THAT MAKES NO SENSE! And it was the exact disconnect that ALWAYS happens in this argument every single time. At the time I sided with her. And then I had my first women's studies class (several years later!) where the distinction between racism and prejudice was laid out so clearly, and my very first reaction was THIS IS WHAT KEVIN WAS TALKING ABOUT! HE WAS RIGHT ALL ALONG! It was a huge revelation for me, and it was completely filtered through The Real World. That is so sad. But anyway. My point is- I don't really have one REALLY, but I will make one up now. I feel like it's really not that hard of a concept to understand if you're just willing to hear what's ACTUALLY being said, to take a second to understand how the words are being defined instead of falling into that knee-jerk defensiveness. But I don't think I've ever seen that happen.

OMG I REMEMBER THAT ARGUMENT. I totally didn't understand at the time, but WOW, looking back Kevin was right!

Epiphanies come in all shapes. The reverse racism garbage pervades society, so it's not surprising that it takes a kick to the head to get the point across to people.

If only I could kick a few of the heads.

Oy.

Okay, I know I say some dumb shit, that's a given, but I look like the height of enlightenment in comparison. Because I try.

It's the arrogance of not even trying to see the point. WTF.

I'm the first one to blame it on the Youth Today, but I don't even think I can fall back on that here.

Aside from how WRONG WRONG OH MY GOD SO FUCKING WRONG those people are, what surprises me (and continues to surprise me all the time) is the sheer abundance of people who do not understand that MEDIA DOES NOT EXIST IN A VACUUM, YOU MORONS. I just...how do people not understand this? I'm majoring in goddamn Film Studies for fuck's sake. This fact is pretty much the axis upon which my entire degree rotates. Media of any kind is not a goddamn fantasy world in which you have free reign to be a racist, misogynistic cockface because "it's not reaaaaal LOL".

FLAMES. FLAMES ON THE SIDE OF MY FACE.

ALSO. I love the argument that it's not as if the OP requested "yeah, take her down a peg, send her back in the kitchen where she belongs", because apparently "take her down a peg" has NO negative connotations to it AT ALL.

fucking morons. MORONS.

Fact #1: Yesterday, I was drinking because I was, for the lulz, reading comments on a race article on a conservative tabloid. Fact #2: Today, I'm drinking because I read the comments on a spn anonmeme about race. Posit: Racism takes the guilt out of drinking. Conclusion: Racism is good.

I occasionally get these moments when I'm worried that some of these crazy, ignorant people have me friended. I wish they would have to wear a sign or something so I know to ignore and avoid their ignorant asses.

Normally I avoid anything anonymous for the obvious reasons. But the kink meme? Who would have expected that garbage?

I'm pretty sure "reverse racism" is just white-people speak for "A POC isn't treating me like I shit diamonds," just like misandry is male speak for "A woman is questioning what I'm saying based on the merits of my arguments."

I work in a field where POC are in the power structure and white people are in the minority. I've encountered prejudice, sure, based on my age and race, but do I have the skin-crawling fear that I'm going to need to prove my own self worth (see TFV's account of car buying (http://thefourthvine.livejournal.com/112449.html?#cutid1))? Nope. Sorry cupcakes. That's not reverse racism. That's just someone being rude to you.

Yeah, I have given this a lot of thought over the last few days (that is: trying to figure out how people can earnestly justify themselves on claims of reverse racism) and I think at the end of the day it boils down to disenfranchisement olympics where people are so invested in how mistreated they are that they get pissed off that other people have more valid claims to being the victims of systemic abuse. I think this is what leads people to say "as a woman, I..." or "as a Druid, I..." or "as a furry, I..." in conversations about racism.
