Between these fools and the ones on the kink meme I am flabbergasted that SO MUCH of what has gone down in fandom in the last couple years seems to have missed at least two or three concerted morons. They have never heard the definition of racism wrt prejudice? EVER? Not once? Seriously?

They just got the internet down in Fraggle Rock.

They are VERY busy with their white privilege blinders. Also, they checked the dictionary and it didn't say racism = prejudice + power so obvs everyone else is wrong.


IBARW makes my head explode every year because there are masses of people going "OMG I HAD NO IDEA" over racism 101 concepts.

I AM SO ANGRY. It's not that hard to educate yourself about racism! Fandom is all over that shit! What in god's name have these people been doing that they TOTALLY MISSED RACEFAIL '09? Not to mention all the discussions of racism that occurred before that!

The really sad thing is that I encounter people like this every day in RL, and yet it still manages to surprise me that there are white folk who are so completely oblivious to the millions of ways their lives are made easier by their whiteness.

Out in the wild, I assume any given white person is a racist bomb waiting to explode, but in fandom I do tend to expect people to be at least slightly acquainted with the basic concepts of white privilege and the fact that poc have a different interaction with the world than white people do. I think to some extent the anonymous coms are a safe space for white people to be butthurt over having a mirror put in front of them and told to look themselves in the eyes.
