That was my reaction exactly. I was so pleased that they made Jo & Ellen heroes. Female characters, and supporting cast, and *they* got to save the day instead of being rescued. I thought it was an honorable thing to do, and went along with Kripke's tendency to fingerpoint at what's right and wrong with the typical trends in the genre.
Supporting cast members die; we know this. Doesn't matter what shape or form they come in, they die. But, if they had to, I thought this was a great way to do it.
