I decided last year that I was out of Yuletide for good because of the move to Ao3. That's fine, we were quits and I have been ignoring them until now.
What on EARTH is going on over there this year? They set an arbitrary threshold for how many stories a fandom could have on Ao3 as the qualification for a fandom making it into Yuletide? And, this will surprise you, people are unhappy with that?
I mean, if you're a supporter of A03, using Yuletide as a way of making that archive happen is pretty smart. Many people look forward to the challenge every year, and many of them will jump through whatever hoops you set for them to participate. However, it's fandom, you can't really expect people to pipe down and not complain.
We're an egalitarian system. Even if you run some fannish enterprise, you're not really the boss of anyone else. You're just some silly person willing to do something for free that is bound to piss people off. Trust me when I say I know all about this.
At Wincon I was joking about the need for something alternative to Yuletide for all the drop outs. Since people still like the concept of an end of year challenge thing. Anyone interested in that? Maybe something simple like a free for all comment driven com.
Anyway, we can brainstorm.
