Can people outside the US access Comedy Central clips on their website? If not, sooooo sad! The John Oliver World Cup clips have been fucking hilarious. Every once in a while they get a really good platform to skewer everyone and anyone, and the WC has been good for this (main focus being American and UK jingoism).

Tomorrow might be a very bad day for me in this tournament. Good thing I'm such a good loser. <------that is self parody. Today was bad enough. (I swore this time around I *would not* watch or care. The worst lies are the ones you tell yourself.)

So renewed rumors of Donovan being recruited by Chelsea? Idk, why does MLS even exist? Send our good players overseas, we're still not ready for a professional league. What's changed since '94? That was the big push, and how different are things now?

I find the US continues failure at the international level even funnier because the commentary about England is that the population isn't big enough to support the national team like France or Germany can (this is the excuse post loss, not new), but our population is how much larger and we can't really field a world class national team? It's not population size, it's infrastructure.

Personally, I think the problem the US has with fielding pro soccer players and the national team is that it's such a middle/upper middle class game here that not enough people are hungry to play pro or at the international level. Eh, everyone plays soccer, but by everyone I mean tons of middle/upper class white people who're going to go to college anyway. The whole appeal of glory is missing, but the real truth is that the incentive to leverage soccer to get out of poverty isn't there. The change in our national team will most likely come from the children of immigrants playing for the US.

I am very bitter today, shut up.
