The round up of the BB situation.
I want to say that I don't think the author deserves to be admonished alone here. Every person who read this fic in beta and editing stages and the people responsible for the art should also check their heads.
Look, at this point if you're in lj-based English-language media fandom and you have never seen this or something similar, it's because you've just woken up from a coma/joined fandom almost literally yesterday or you're willfully ignorant.
You don't live a bubble, and pretending you do is pointless because we all occupy similar space on the internet to you. If you participate in fandom enough to write fic or make art, you intersect with some form of educational efforts for social justice. Just because you refuse to click the links that people provide, you're not off the hook for knowing about these issues. At this point saying "I didn't know" is a confession that these issues weren't previously important enough to you for you to bother clicking open a tab and putting the Sam/Dean fuckfest on hold for fifteen minutes so you could pick up on the weight of history holding you fast in your comfortable bubble of ignorance.
Education benefits everyone. If you're not altruistic enough to click a tab open for the people you're shitting on with your utter self-absorption, do it for yourself. Maybe you'll get a Pub Trivia point out of learning who bell hooks is.
