Colonial history is really a weak point for me (I always thought it was so so boring), but according to America: The History of Us (that would be we and me, maybe not you), one of the pivotal figures in the Revolutionary War was a gay. Who was handpicked by Washington. Um, so this paints DADT in a whole new light, correct?
Sometimes I think history is opaque in a way that can never be explicated by descendants, but there are ways of picking it apart better than we have in the past.
This once again cracks me up that the rightwing hates "revisionary" history. Gimme a break, assholes.
I wonder if Foucault ever wrote about this dude. The whole slander of him fucking "young boys" definitely falls under his rubric of marginalizing homosexuality. Hm, unknowable, but problematic on many fronts. Libel/slander of pedophilia for gay men is not new, arg.
