So, I've got some pretty hardcore (read: very) figure skating fans on my flist. Which is awesome because there are posts like this on my flist and I don't have to go looking for gossip background info on skaters I don't know. (That link is really great, give it a whirl.)

But I also stumble across Elvis Stojko still being a dickhead in comments. His issues are about as transparent as Laurel K Hamilton's (you know, maybe it's time to update that to Stephanie Meyer? Or I guess Charlaine Harris, but LKH is the old skool tmi hack). I don't know if anyone else who reads that will be as amused as I am with him still pretending that *he* didn't create that Lindros rumor. God, that guy's a piece of work. As I was reading that (besides hating him all over again) what really went through my mind is how Mr Stojko is missing the bigger picture here: gay culture has gone mainstream with Bravo and America's Next Top Model and Adam Lambert and SO ON AND ON and we're just on the cusp of average Joe's realizing that. Lady Gaga isn't edgy, she's one version of middle of the road pop culture these days.

Talk about a classic example of straight white dudes crying a river over being "marginalized." Sorry, you have the world, Elvis, the wannabe Johnny Weirs have men's figure skating right now.


Anyway, that is to say: it took wider slash fandom a LONG time to find figure skating. I guess we just needed RPS to become standard practice coinciding with an Olympics.

(In other news, amberlynne and I have broken up until after the Olympics because she...I hesitate to say this because it's so beyond the pale...is rooting for Sweden and RUSSIA to medal in hockey. I have shunned the non-believer for us all.)
