You maybe not know this about me, but I like music. *wry face*
Someone I like rather a lot is Leonard Cohen. As a bourgtarded individual living in Canada this worked out quite well because the people who produce the talk version of CBC radio in English are in some kind of Leonard Cohen cult and they make regular programming about him. The US is seriously a radio wasteland, people. If you've never lived anywhere else, let me tell you, American public radio sucks.
Jian Ghomeshi interview I really liked Jian when he was a cultural commenter on other shows, not so much since he's gotten his own. He's got a smug kind of hipster attitude that splooges all over you. However LC never gives interviews, so you take what you can get. I find the interview even more poignant because Jian is just a flibbity jibbit while LC is always so profound and I can see him having a whole internal conversation reflecting on The Kids Today. Jian even misuses "ironic" while interviewing effing Leonard Cohen! I feel that that elevates the entire interview to an art project. (Note to aspiring cultural critics: when interviewing a poet, try to use precise language.)
And LC even admits he can't sing, so here are two versions of a favorite:
Famous Blue Raincoat - Jonathan Coulton
Famous Blue Raincoat - Tori Amos
Rarely do actual artists crossover to become famous pop cultural icons, but this is one, and he's an inspiration. Yeah, check me out being real and junk.
eta: Here are two more covers I think you should have.
Sisters of Mercy - Beth Orton
Chelsea Hotel #2 - Rufus Wainwright
These are both from the Gala Performance whatever celebration thing from several years ago. The latter being, of course, my favorite LC song.
