I feel like I might need to do a This Is Who I Am sticky post thing like so many people do now, but, fuck it I don't know how people distill themselves in bullet points. You'll either figure it out or you won't (there are people who've been reading my journal for years and never have, so it's possible).

While I'm not going to do a sticky post, I'll at least tell you this: I'm a music snob. A very dedicated hater who will not ride in the car with certain people because of their musical "tastes." If you think you know how hardcore I am--hahaha no, you totally DO NOT.

A recent conversation:

Another person: I was really missing you then I got in the car with X and she was listening to some cd and I thought "Oh well, K would hate this so much!" so I felt better. You'd have hated to be there and miserable.
Me: Was it country music?
AP: hahahahahha


So, anyway, I'm an asshole basically. I also don't advertise this with American Apparel so I'm camouflaged. Until you put Animal Collective on.

Hols zipped this for me as I have yet to get my old hd extracted yet and I was talking to Amber and she'd never bothered to dl any of the music I've uploaded. Because she's really stupid. *weeps* So I forced this on her.

Look, there's a reason I'm relentless about this guy--he's awesome. It's not just the music, which is AMAZING--he's a poet, brilliant, funny, and worth supporting if you believe in art as a community. We're in it together, people.

Yeah, I'm an "art" douche.

Anyone acquainted with me AT ALL knows who this guy is because I have been steadfastly championing him for years. But if you're new (or dumb like Amber), here's the deal: this guy is a singer/songwriter nonpareil. He's got your love songs, your songs about drinking too much, and everything in between. But here's the thing, he is masterful with wordplay and metaphor. I am not effusive lightly. Remember, I'm a massive hater. This guy I endorse with my soul. Download it. He's on tour right now (as it is summer and so is everyone), go to a show, but wear a tarp 'cause there will be some raging drunks there tossing their drinks on you.

The Magpies

This is another indy act--and you know, honestly, it's rare that I even bother with a band on a major because by the time that record has come out, the heavy lifting is over and the band's about to implode or blow up, so they don't need people like me. Ok, Hols told me not to say she made me link to them, so I have to since she's not the boss of me! This is her pet band, and it's my duty as her bosom companion to support that. I mean, she'll have to do the same with my next pet band, as this is only right. This act has a southern rock feel to it, and that isn't exactly my thing, BUT everyone else on the planet loves it, so I think it's a good bet you'll like this if you like classic rock or even like Old 97's and that genre. (It's his vocal inflections that remind me alternately of John Couger Mellencamp and Lynyrd Skynyrd.) Fun summer music.

What do you think, class? Should this become the new "canon?" They're so ott gay for each other ALL the pap can snap that's clean is coffee runs and Noah walking? For some reason this is really cracking me up. I have no idea why since I think it's nonsense, but the very idea of it is awesome. YAY fangirls! (I'm pretty sure if there were pictures of the leads for ST making out on the sidewalk, er, there would be a market for that? I mean, wouldn't that become Perez's new header?)

Let's discuss this, then maybe I'll write a story about it.

And to conclude my day of spam, I will finally chime in with my two cents on Iran (which, you know, is more like a hundred dollars-worth of commentary).

Many many people seem very interested in the situation in Iran, and I think that's absolutely wonderful.

I just want to say this, though: the election fraud is an outgrowth of a much deeper situation. And it's not just "oh, the bad ayatollahs hate on freedom!" that seems to be the gloss the media is sort of giving this.

The Family Protection Bill

Check that shit out. You believe in feminism? Be down with what's going on in Iran right now. This is beyond a little "they make women wear hijab!" here. This isn't about modestly laws, this is about sexual exploitation, near-enslavement, and erasing personhood. This shit is JACKED UP.

There has been a systematic stripping of women's rights in Iran since the revolution, this is widely known. People simply don't seem to care. However, a big part of what's going on w/ this election is that on one side are the people who support The Family Protection Bill and the people who DO NOT. Guess who stole the election...
