syncope at 11:49am on 18/02/2009The last couple of days I've sort of been peeking around the corner of SPN fic again, mostly leaping around recs lists and contemplating summaries and trying to decide if I want to click it or not. I have a few interests in that direction, so I'm picking around seeing what's out there and considering reading things. astolat's HP xover the other day and I feel bad, but everything else I've tried to read has just left me sad that that fic wasn't an on-going 100K word series. So since I'm not likely to stumble on a clone of that fic (which quite honestly might be my favorite fic I've read in years, and I've written a whole sequel to it in my head), I've gone in the opposite direction and started seeking out fic where Sam is the antichrist as that is of interest to me. Oh boy.
I always say "if you want to read it, write it," but I feel bratty and wish that someone had written the fic of my heart so I could read the shit for once. I am too lazy to try to write the fic I want to read. *bangs toys on table*
I think the issue I'm having is that I see that story going in a very specific way AND I also don't think it's only a story about Castiel's Lord (who I hesitate to call G-d--as in the One True God, because clearly there are other powers at work in this world, like the Trickster, who is himself a god who is able to create pocket realities) and The Devil--or I suppose in this case perhaps a rebellion in hell with Lilith (why did they pick that name, oh, Krip, stay away from concepts that are too complex, okay, it's broadcast teevee) set against some other as of yet unnamed power. So to me the question then becomes, who is it that Lilith is keeping Sam away from? Lucifer himself? A second rebellious party that she thinks will use Sam against her? Is it a free-for-all in hell because The Devil or Lucifer or whomever has gone on vaycay a la Lucifer (the comic, which I recommend HIGHLY to people who are still reading this far into this ramble).
I hesitate to even try to explore this story until the finale airs, because I don't want to get Jossed to hell (haha) and back when The Devil checks in to have a heart to heart with Sam--who is then revealed to be HIS SON or some other such garbage. However, that's too long for me to have this crap kicking around in my brain.
The other story I'd love is one where the Other Powers who are out of the Christian mythos completely (which I suppose some people would argue Lilith is, but I've been giving the use of Jewish myths by Christians some thought lately, and I'm not sure how I feel about the Lilith story) come to the Winchesters and are like "ok, wtf, for serious!" And maybe some offer help and others just want the Winchesters to gtfo (this is NOT and American Gods story, as I was sorely disappointed in AG and I wish there was some kind of pro-fic remix so I could claim it).
Come talk to me about these matters. Your opinions are important on this grey day of low skies and perhaps too many cups of coffee.
