syncope at 03:42pm on 11/09/2008I didn't even realize today was 9/11. I think I have something important to do today, but I can't even remember what. I woke up at 3 this morning and watched Iron Man before going back to bed. Then my boss (predictably) called me this morning to question my (under) billing. I was fiercely annoyed. What the fuck, dude, when I'm under billing you are you gonna call me and question my billing ethics? Are you fucking serious?
Blah.
So 9/11. I landed on fandom_wank like two or three or ten years ago about my opinions regarding this day. I'm more ambivalent now. As are we all, I think. Years of war will do that to a country. I was listening to a Canadian radio show yesterday about Iran thinking "what the fuck is wrong with us?" because it's been clear to me from day one that Iraq was step one and the final goal was Iran. Look at that lameass RNC Convention vid where they conflated the Iran hostage crisis w/ 9/11. I mean, honestly, are even Republicans that stupid? I get that people don't comprehend Islam AT ALL, but how can one not parse that Iran and Iraq were at war w/ each other forever? This is a pretty well known factoid. CLEARLY secretly they were actually conspiring since the 70's to take down America...wait, what's that, Wahabis are from Saudi Arabia, our ally? Pull the other one, Junior!
I know it's too much to ask that people get some education about Islam because they don't even know about their own damned religion. The level to which Christians tend to be ignorant about the bible is striking. This is the case on every level, whether a person is liberal or fundy. Also, memorizing selected bible verses that back up your teacher's political beliefs isn't education, btw.
9/11 makes me hate America. This is just the truth. I think a lot of it is the self-indulgent boosterism you get on a anniversary like this. What is being remembered was a tragedy, everything that came after was a fucking farce. If you're so depressed about the attacks, register to vote and don't vote republican.
It really angers me that if you're not maudlin about the right things you're not patriotic in this country. Who's to tell me if I'm a patriot or not? A guy who believes unions should be broken and welfare is for lazy assholes? Someone who believe the Rapture is looming and Obama's the anti-Christ? Why does their agenda supersede anything else? I can't be patriotic and rational? I moved back to the States from a better country (whoa, yeah, I said that!) because I was homesick and I love it here no matter how shitty my fellow citizens are. Remember when the right is shoving Islam-hating down your throat that the Christian track record ain't all that great, and on the scale the 9/11 attacks aren't nearly as bad as say the damned Inquisition.
