Former POW on why he won't vote for McCain. It's been weird for listening to all the pro-war rhetoric in the last several years that seems to indicate that all veterans believe in WAR WAR WAR. In my experience, war veterans tend to be against new wars because they know what kind of hell it is, personally. All of the men in my family are veterans. My dad and my surrogate dad (my uncle Bob) were both Vietnam vets and BOTH democrats and anti-war. These are proud career military vets from different service branches who would never agree on anything in the world--except that war is a tragedy.
I've not seen a lot of commentary from people in my age demo about what it's like to grow up in the aftermath of war. That was one of the singular issues for me regarding Iraq (not Afghanistan because I actually believed in overthrowing the Taliban and was for that intervention long before it happened). The actual war is disgusting and regrettable and totally tanks any high road we could have EVER had as a country bent on democracy, but what about all the children and families of the kids who grew up in peace time who will be broken forever because of this war (by kids I mean the vets themselves)? Families destroyed. Actual human beings who had aspirations and dreams who will now live the rest of their lives damaged. Maybe my perspective is something like the family survivors of substance addiction. People don't just come home and get over war. Everyone suffers from that. Is there any reason to inflict that on two plus generations other than true and real injustice? Certainly not oil rights. I know I'm hardly alone as the kid of vet who watched how Vietnam kept playing out on and on and on. Look around, that's about the happen again.
Cindy Lou McCain makes me ill. What is she, the Mother Theresa of the Republican Party? Puke. Look, she adopted a brown baby, she must be awesome!
I love how they're trotting out McCain's mom to say "look! she's alive! he won't die in six months!" Peddle that shit somewhere else. Someone's ninety-something year old parent NEVER outlived their seventy-something year old child. Never.
Good thing they have an actor to do the voice over McCain intro! You know, I actually used to sort of like McCain. He was a helluva lot better than Shrub. But he's not Bob Dole (ok, look, I love Bob Dole, get off my jock).
HELLO PROTESTER! YOU CAN'T WIN AN OCCUPATION!!!!!! Fuck, finally. Thank you, leftwing media elite (CNN). Also MCCAIN VOTES AGAINST VETS! Hello, democracy.
Ok, what was the slip dress chick protesting? I assume the war. HAHAHHA '68! I hope there's a riot.
Why is McCain wearing a gold tie? That's unAmerican.
He fought Union bosses? Ok, well, that means he sucks. Fuck you, McCain.
( We got bored w/ McCain. )
Seriously? McCain's going to go w/ the Iran rhetoric?
How long is this fucking speech? Christ!!!!!!!!
Obama's not a vet, therefore he's not able to lead the country! Totally. I see that logic. Keep on thankin' God, McCain, in retirement.
I canNOT believe how they're exploiting his war record. This just disgusts me. There are levels of appropriate behavior that I feel McCain sidesteps exploiting his service. I just. No. Absolutely no.
This is where Jenn interjects. Hi! Kassie's flist. Can you even believe this shit? I'ma go back to singing Tori Amos lyrics and hope the brisket Kassie put in the oven is ready soon. She's in the kitchen basting now and it smells SO GOOD in here. Clearly if we're going to keep listening to this I'm going to need more wine. *Goes to open another bottle*
(Jenn almost bahleeted this post being all HHHAHAHAHAH hijack! Clearly clever.)
