Yes, waiting for the other people to join my conference call!
As sent to me by Nate (which is pure hilarity): Music snobbery is hard, yo. I really feel the restaurant and other public spaces thing hard. Last week in the mall I was almost in tears. Also from Nate: Katamari Dimachi bb hat
These are the guys on repeat today:
The Gaslight Anthem - The 59 Sound
The Gaslight Anthem - Here's Looking At You, Kid
The Gaslight Anthem - Even Cowgirls Get the Blues
I was going to skip this one, but fuck it!
1)Its a mpreg. Gerard is pregnant and in a relationship with Frank, that is a junkie. I remember Gerard leaving Frank but he left a note saying he was going to Mikeys house. A sober Frank meets Gerard there and tells him that he is sorry and that he will change his ways. Gerard believes in him and goes back. The next day, Gerard says he is going out and Frank ask if he is going to whore himself (i think, not sure), Gerard says that he is going to the doctor because of there baby and Frank says that the child is not his. Of course, he is high and the last thing I remember is Gerard saying that Frank loved him but he loved the drugs even more (or something like that)
This is one of those sort of "where to start?" ones.
Let's repeat: Of course, he is high. I think if you read that bit in a sarcastic voice it sounds totally different: he says the child isn't his--of course he's high, like duh, who else's baby could it be? Except all those (assumablly--and spellcheck tells me this isn't a word) guys Gerard's whoring himself out to (in Frank's mind, I guess).
This must be an on-going abusive codependent relationship. I think it sounds like a pretty realistic one with the note thing:
"I'm leaving your junkie ass, but I'll be at my brother's when you get really high and need me for something. But I'm not REALLY coming back, you fuckhead, just, you know, if you fall down and hit your head or end up in jail."
Siiiiiigh.
If you're going to write this story, why not make Gerard a chick? I mean, this very much reads like gritty urban drama. Why not go all the way and make Gerard female and Frank an abusive druggie husband? I guess that eliminates the distance of it being "fun?" This doesn't read like happy fun times to me.
I will recast: Gabe in the Frank role and Vicky in the Gerard role. Vicky gets tired of Gabe's bullshit and goes to her cousin Alex who lives with his ott gay lover in Chelsea. Ryland works on "The Daily Show" and has a Pomeranian he carries in a man purse. Alex is a devoted political activist and professor at New School. Nate is their grumpy neighbor who always has people crashing at is place. Gabe shows up to get some cash for smack from Vicky and Ryland is charmed, leading to Vicky running away to Chicago.
