syncope at 05:05pm on 21/12/2005 under detective comicsBack in the way back day, Smallville fic used to be seasoned pretty liberally with characters from the DCU. The ones I remember best are the Wally and Bruce stories, but I vaguely recall reading a futurefic with Diana at some point.
Smallville likes to pretend that Clark and Lex live in a bubble of an epic struggle of Good Versus Evil (or maybe primary colors versus purple and grey tones? Oh, you mean that’s SYMBOLISM?), but we know the truth, right? Gotham City is plagued by costumed criminals who prey on the weak and taunt a crazy guy who dresses up like a Bat. Metropolis is populated by aliens and vigilantes. Clark is hardly the only person in the world, well, not from this world!
Do you think what Smallville, Ks. really needs is a cool Amazon in a short skirt and knee boots getting it on with Chloe Sullivan? Or, possibly, Clark needs to have his worldview challenged by a juvenile delinquent named Jason? Or maybe Lex used to run with a strange chick named Talia?
For those who just can’t get enough of the DCU crack, I present:
A Very Small(ville) Crisis: a DCU in the Smallvilleverse challenge
Now, you might be saying to yourself, “This sounds sort of cool, but I stopped watching SV when Ian Somerhalder left/Lucas left/Lex got married the third time/Lana got possessed by the spirit of her dead witch ancestor (and why the hell was Jensen Ackles on Smallville anyway, wasn’t he on Dark Angel or some other sucky show?)/Pete moved away taking the minority presence to ZERO (oh, Principal Kwan!—Lana doesn’t count even if she IS multiracial!)/Whitney died in the war.”
FEAR NOT! You can set your story in S1 (oh, the gay!) or remake the whole world (mindwipes anyone? Ok, how about a Memory Ray, Starlabs, HELLO!) or make the whole thing a dream (the show’s actual writers do it, why not you?) or what about meanwhile, in Gotham City that just ignores Lex and Clark altogether? Futurefic also obscures all glitches in canon knowledge.
There are no real rules. Write as much or little as you want. Poems? Sure! Fanart? Hell yeah! Crafting? You’re weird, but alright!
If you’re interested or intend to write something/make something, please comment below. If you don’t have your own idea, we have plenty to spare (inflict on you). After the first of the year, I will make another post where everyone can link to their stories. I will even collate them and archive them all somehow at the end!
