Ugh. I just had that "I typed a whole post and lj magicked away" happen. YIPPEE!

Anyway. I thought if I wrote out that one story that I'd purge the universe out of my subconscious and move on since I am out of the habit of bothering to write fic.

No really. Stop laughing. I don't laugh at your when you're being delusional (wait, no I do).

1300 words in an hour indicated I might be in for a deluge.

This story is even OTP compliant. WHY? HOW? WHERE DO YOU GO FOR HELP? <---- Derek feels the same way, I promise you.

I have to spend a lot of time at the hospital tomorrow related to someone else having surgery tomorrow, so I guess I'll take my computer.

Now you, writing/reading?

Also, what are the rules on AO3? Is the expectation the same that non-dicks reply to all their fb? Do people reply to comments there? I'm at a loss.

i put on my cowboy hat and get up on my horse and ride away into the sunset, never looking back at you because your betrayal hurts too much

Hey! Don't make me chase you.

I wrote 14k words of Danny, come on!

I know your feels, I have felt them. So many times. Do you know what it's like to hate Clex? Oh. Actually you do know. But anyway, listen about my pain, ok?

Now, where are some gifs?

WHAT IS CLEX IT SOUNDS LIKE CEREAL. Fine I guess we can listen about your pain.

it is a mark of the hilarity of our lives that THIS is the aspect requiring further explanation

Sending my good wishes to the person having surgery. And good luck on the writing!

Oh, thank you! Yeah, it's a crossed fingers situation.

And also, thank you. I need a plot at this point. Boo.

Does it have to be fannish? The reading part, I mean.

Of course not. That's why I have a kindle.

Just finished Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn. Holy shit the crazy is epic. Now reading one of her earlier ones, Dark Places. Gone Girl wins so far, though.

This sounds interesting, for real. Like it's based in part on the Scott Dudeguy whose pregnant wife went missing. I could be off-base there.

If you want a rec in reply: Martin Walker's Bruno Chief of Police books. Charming and with good mystery plots.
posted by [identity profile] at 12:51am on 12/09/2012
YES, I'm looking to actually read during this school year instead of flaking out with two hours of TV reruns. Thank you for the rec.

You start off thinking that about Scott Petersen, then it veers totally cockeyed. Check it out.

If you like urban fantasy I have another rec for you then: the Rivers of London series by Ben Aaronovitch. This is the good shit. For real. It's one of those series where you want to slow yourself down as you're reading it because you don't want it to end but then devour it as fast as possible and hate yourself afterwards. Amazing.

Wait, do you pick your pack members from fandom? I think this might be an even worse plan than Derek's. Or the greatest plan ever. I'm up in the air here.
posted by [identity profile] at 11:25pm on 12/09/2012
Wait.....there are people who are not fandom?
posted by [identity profile] at 11:27pm on 12/09/2012
Probably not anyone in-universe of TW. I can see Erica being a Jared/Jensen shipper, Stiles is addicted to reddit, Scott's a brony.
posted by [identity profile] at 03:43pm on 13/09/2012
Stiles reads Dan Savage. In fact, he's a named commenter -- but people think he's 27/f. Isaac only uses his tumblr to reblog because once someone reblogged a post where he used the word "lame" with a screed on ableism that called him a fucking asshole and then 3,092 other people reblogged that screed. Lydia has a makeupalley account and edits wikipedia articles on advanced mathematics to be less unintelligible. She's clinical and ruthless.
posted by [identity profile] at 10:37pm on 13/09/2012
This could all actually easily slip into canon without being crack in any way.

I particularly like the Isaac incident. Then he felt really stupid trying to explain to Derek why he's in such a bad mood because Derek only proxy internets unless otherwise forced (except for porn. even Derek watches porn online).

For pleasure? Neither. Wah.

Also, what are the rules on AO3? Is the expectation the same that non-dicks reply to all their fb? Do people reply to comments there? I'm at a loss.

I apply the same rules as LJ; reply to comments. I've seen lots of replies to my comments there, too, but as always, your choice.
posted by [identity profile] at 10:40pm on 12/09/2012

I've gotten exactly ONE reply to a comment on AO3. Maybe this is random luck, who knows. I was wondering if The Kids Today didn't bother replying to fb anymore. (Not that there haven't always been those people.)

Poo. I hate periods of not being able to read at all.

Could be true. I always comment there, though, and I get many thank-you responses, so I know at least some people are replying.
posted by [identity profile] at 06:11am on 12/09/2012

I am still trying to understand AO3 but I will say as someone who leaves comments a lot, I am MUCH more inclined to keep leaving them for an author if they respond, even with a simple "thanks". There are definitely less comments and less of a comment culture there than here though, for sure...

There are a lot of things I'm reading and I'm hoping to make a big boring recs post soon? But in the meantime, I've been enjoying Teen Wolf fic with pretend boyfriends (, angry stripteases (, gratuitous porn (, werewolves taking puppies too seriously (, genderswap (, fucked up and mad hot AUs (, and cast RPF ( especially! :D
posted by [identity profile] at 10:37pm on 12/09/2012
Pretend boyfriends is my favorite, no lie.

YAY, LINKS! Thank you thank you.

Ok, so it's not just me who noticed people don't reply to comments there a lot. But there've always been people who behave that way.
posted by [identity profile] at 06:02am on 14/09/2012
pretend boyfriends is what this fandom is the BEST at. or like - didn't know we were even boyfriends.

I have 1600 words of Sterek and a loose plot. Fuck you, by the way; you did this to me. You and... okay, like three other people. Whatever.

Looking forward so hard to whatever you come out with.

I love written feedback/reader response and would like to reward people for providing it, so I try to reply to every comment on Ao3, even though it probably makes me look like a tryhard &/or comment count padder.
posted by [identity profile] at 10:35pm on 12/09/2012
*bows* The chain of life continues.

I'm also looking forward to your fic. I hope it's some version of the shit I've been provoking you to write.

As I said below, the reason I asked isn't because I decided suddenly to be a total dick, but because I've seen A LOT of fic with unanswered comments.
posted by [identity profile] at 03:27pm on 13/09/2012
So far it's a just-post-s2 fic where shit happens and 23/ww/Derek and 16/m/Stiles fuck and still don't like each other and some other shit happens, with bonus lack of po-faced handwringing about how ~violent~ Derek has been to fragile pure-hearted Stiles. But Ifrit divorced me when she figured out what I was trying to make her read, so I'm doing this without a safety net. I'm thinking of putting a bunch of earnest "For [ profile] weatherfront, with my love" type stuff in the header when I post it, because then if she says "you're an asshole" she looks like the asshole.
posted by [identity profile] at 10:33pm on 13/09/2012
You know, I will read your fic and discuss it with you. That's how fandom works, iirc.

I also respect your commitment to sparklemotion wrt fucking with your friends.

PMing you about it!

I think the inevitable slide of fandom to post fic in one centralized location with a workable commenting function does means you still have to reply to your fb the same way you've always done.

Though if you xposted to the tumblrs you wouldn't have that question, so.
posted by [identity profile] at 10:31pm on 12/09/2012
The reason I asked is because I've seen A LOT of people not replying to fb over there so I was curious if the culture's shifted.
posted by [identity profile] at 01:55pm on 13/09/2012
Huh. I have seen some of that but I assumed it was just people taking their sweet time replying?

Anyhow, my policy is to always reply. Do what moves you, etc.

oh man I owe you feedback for your story! I loved it. I've been bad on the interaction front this week so I read it all lurker like, sorry.

my expectations at AO3 are the same, yeah. (are you there now? where? I need to subscribe.)
posted by [identity profile] at 10:30pm on 12/09/2012
I'll always xpost. It's just that TW is a AO3 heavy fandom so I'm going to post my TW fic over there.

Oh, no worries! We all do it. I don't expect fb like some kind of toll I basically write for the fun of it and release it into the wild.

Take care of yourself, don't worry about other people when you need to.

I love AO3 for fic - though I always think xposting is wiser, because security through redundancy, heh.
So I'll be happy to sub there and bookmark there, etc. I go to AO3 more often than to LJ (you're one of the few people I still come to LJ for. :D)

I dunno why today was so wretched. hope tomorrow ill be good to both of us *crosses fingers*

(it's not so much that I feel like I am bound to pay for fic in feedback but I also want to encourage more danny (and non stereo) fic, so, yeah. *g*)
