How can you write fiction without ever killing off a character? I understand there are some stories that don't require a death, but since death is an inescapable part of life, it often finds itself in a fictional story. When I had to kill one of my major characters, my first writing mentor called it; "killing your babies." It was appropriate because I was often loathe to kill a character I liked, but the plot called for that character's death.
